For many years, I searched far and wide for the perfect BBQ sauce to suit my tastes. I looked for a sauce that was tangy, not sweet, and had no artificial smoke flavor added. I wanted a sauce that would enhance the flavor of barbecued meats, not mask the natural wood smoke flavor. I never found the ‘perfect’ sauce.
So, I decided about 20 years ago to make my own sauce. As a boy, I remember Mama making BBQ sauce at her stove, combining different ingredients and spices she had in the cupboard. I reflected on her process and tried to duplicate that when making my own BBQ sauce.
As the years passed, I created many batches. I gave bottles upon bottles to my family and friends, seeking feedback. I didn’t want them to just say “I like it”, but to answer the question “How did it taste?” I took everyone’s input and our sauce has evolved to its present recipe.
Throughout the process, my family has been my BBQ sauces’ biggest fans and supporters. The picture on our label is my first grandchild, Lane, at 3 years old. Today, both my grandchildren let me know when they need more of Grandaddy’s sauce.

Wesley's BBQ sauce is so good we treat it like we did Heinz 57 when I was a little girl. We hide our bottle in the back of the refrigerator when company comes!
